2003 ACTIVITY REPORT
2003 Annual Meeting Activities
Twenty people attended the
Committee meeting held on January 14, 2003 in the Hilton Hotel, Washington
DC. The following reports were
given: Incoming Chairperson, Secretary,
Steering, Research, Newsletter/Website, Annual Meeting, Summer Meeting, and
Research Funding Summary. Membership
status was discussed since membership terms expired in 2003. Twenty-six people attended the paper session
sponsored by the committee.
2003 Summer Meeting Activities
Ninety people attended the Summer Workshop Beneficial
Use, Sustainability, and Pollution Prevention
in Transportation Infrastructure held in Portsmouth, New Hampshire from
6/29/03 7/1/03. The Workshop was
hosted by The Recycled Materials Resource Center at the University of New
Hampshire. Taylor Eighmy and his staff
did an excellent job of planning and had over 20 presentations conducted
throughout the workshop
Twenty-four people attended the committee meeting. Reports given at the committee meeting
included: TRB Representative;
Chairperson; Secretary; Paper and Presentations Subcommittee; Communications
Subcommittee; and Research Subcommittee.
Membership
There are currently 24 Committee
members representing city, state and federal transportation agencies;
consultants; universities; railway company; research
council; and legal firm. The committee
currently has one young member. Seven of
the committee members rotated off the committee in 2003. Five new members were added. There are over 100 Friends of the Committee.
Triennial Evaluation
The Triennial evaluation was submitted in spring
2002. Five comments regarding the
evaluation were
received from TRB in November 2003. TRB identified A1F07 as a very active,
enthusiastic, and well organized committee.
The Planning and Environment Group asked for the committees assistance
in identifying emerging topics and encouraged the updating of strategic plans
for the committee.
Strategic Planning
The Committee Work Plan was
updated for 2003. The Work Plan contains
detailed information regarding assignments, due dates, internal and external
communications, and Committee activities relevant to and conducted during 2003. Items covered in the plan include Committee
membership, TRB research, technology transfer, Committee sponsored
papers/conferences/workshops, communications, liaison with other TRB committees
and stakeholder groups, and Committee direction.
Other Items
Planning for the 2004 Mid-Year
Workshop to be held in New York City began in summer 2003. The workshop is being hosted by the New York
City Transit. Planning has also begun
for the 2005 Mid-Year Workshop, to be held in North Carolina.
