The Transportation Research Board of the National Academies Committee ADC 60 promotes the industry's evolution from a solid and hazardous waste remediation and management approach to a waste minimization approach through the development and integration of proactive environmental management systems (including sustainability concepts) into transportation programs. The Committee also focuses on systems-based solutions and research associated with waste- and contamination-related technical areas, such as toxic and hazardous materials tracking, pollution prevention, product substitution and green designs, recycling and reuse of materials, and brownfields programs (re-use of contaminated properties in urban transportation systems).
